Music Programs

Primary Music – Grades K – 5

The Music Program is an important and exciting part of the educational curriculum at Chalmers Elementary. The program offers a variety of music education to the K-5 students including singing, recorder, Orff instruments, and boomwackers. There is also a listening component where students learn to focus on specific aspects in music and fine-tune their hearing. Over the course of 6 years students will learn to fluently read sheet music, play and sing in an ensemble, understand how to find an emotional connection to music, and describe music using Italian terminology.

Band – Grade 6, 7

Students develop strong ensemble skills building off of their primary music knowledge and opening up a new avenue of music styles and team camaraderie. Grade 6 and 7 students have the freedom to choose their instrument from the following: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, and Percussion.

Stinger Singers Choir

Chalmers Elementary offers a lunchtime Primary and/or Intermediate choir. Students meet every Wednesday to sing in a large ensemble as we prepare for up and coming assemblies in which the choir performs for the entire school. Songs that we have sung include: Radioactive, Pokemon, Fight Song, Beauty and the Beast, True Colours and Sound of Music.

Musical Theatre Club

Aimed at young artists (Grades 5 – 7) with a passion for singing, dancing and acting, Chalmers Musical Theatre Club exposes students to the kind of rigorous training typically found only at the secondary level and begins their journey toward becoming a true “triple threat” (actor/singer/dancer).
